As always a great event by ATW. Brilliant seeing so many Tri-Force troops racing and cheering us on.
So the swim. Just as we were about to go in the water my wetsuit zipper gave way. I knew it was delicate but had been ok training at the lagoon. We frantically tried to fix but to no avail. So as everyone was entering the water I ran back up to transition to change into my old spare wetsuit. Not the best but better than nothing. Lesson learnt: don’t suit up last minute when your wetsuit is dodgy. By the time I got to the water the main pack was well up towards the first buoy. Oh well I soon caught up with the tail end of swimmers and settled into a nice rhythm. To be honest it was nice starting later as I could choose a good racing line and passing so many swimmers was only a boost. Very please to exit the water with a swim time 33:45, obviously not the official time but this was my real swim time; holding on to my CSS so thanks to you swim coaches.
I’ve been working on my bike so was confident I should better than previous year. As we know there are many hills but that just makes the downhill even better. Emily, Darrin and I pretty much did the first loop together so was in good company. Over the moon with 2:59.
Mostly fuelled by high5 energy gel the run went according to plan. The marshals and helpers were brilliant and feed stations generously stocked. Thanks Chrissy for the photography and encouragement. It helped with my run time of 1:34.
Overall I smashed my PB knocking off 35 mins form previous year so well happy (that’s enough emotion 🤣). Overall time 5:15 - official time.
Great to share a beer afterwards under our Tri-Force tent so that just rounded off the day.
