From the Committee
Our second club organised sprint Triathlon of the year is being held at HSV on Sunday 11th September. These events are the biggest source of income for our club and fund a great deal of the training and activities the club provides. We cannot run these events without volunteer marshals from within the club. Please please give your time to help out. It is an “expectation” of membership that members marshal at least one event per year – but for those who can offer to marshal both events Swim Dynamics have offered a free squad session to say thank you. This is well worth having.
Ideally your presence is required from 5am until about 9.30am but all offers of help within that timeframe gratefully received. Early volunteers get to pick their roles – so don’t delay! Please contact email@example.com and use the subject heading “HSV marshals”.
Meanwhile, in a parallel triathlon universe than the one in which I am, did you see that Jan Frodeno set a new world record over the Ironman distance of 07:35:39, at Challenge Roth, breaking the previous best by over 6 minutes! Joe Skipper set a new British record in the same race of 07:56:23, the first Briton to go sub-8 hours. In addition, Daniela Ryf won the women’s race’s at Roth and then followed it a week later at Zurich. Two Ironman races, 1 week apart, both in sub 9 hours! Great athletes, on a different planet from most of us, but something to aim at!
Finally another reminder that the Olympic triathlon races take place this week – Thursday 18th for the men, and Saturday 19th for the women.
Happy racing, stay safe, and look out for each other out there
