From the Committee
Welcome to another year of triathlon and other assorted madness. There are several important announcements in this newsletter so please don’t delete this.
Firstly, the date of our AGM is Friday 20th March, 8pm, in the Goat in St Albans. Details have been posted in Facebook and on our WhatsApp group as well. Please keep the date free and come along. There will be the usual free bar!
Secondly, is a general request for volunteers to come on to the Committee to help to run the club. The current Committee is very “male dominated” and we are missing out on the female viewpoint. If you are interested, even vaguely, please talk to one of the coaches or an existing Committee member. In addition, our current chair, Darrin Dexter, will be stepping down and we need a new Chair person.
Thirdly, club fees for 2021 are due at the end of February, but you can renew your membership now using the link here. The Committee have decided to leave the current fees unchanged at a more than reasonable £70. As a club we have two main sources of income: membership fees and the entrance fees from our Club run HSV races. These will be on 17th May & 23rd August this year: please keep these dates free so you can either take part or marshal.
Contained below are also details of the latest club kit order, a reminder of our winter training sessions as well as reminder about the race series, the first race of which is in the next few weeks. Also a BTF regional competition you may be interested in.
Hope to see you at the AGM, and look forward to welcoming new Committee members.
Strength and conditioning is something that as triathletes we typically do not do enough of, but it is a huge help in injury prevention and performance improvement.
Sessions run on Wednesdays from 20:15, at Fitness First, Christopher Place, St Albans.
Indoor cycling is a great way to maintain cycle fitness over the winter, avoiding the dark, wet, icy roads.
These run on Tuesdays from 19:30 at Fitness First. The sessions actually start at 19:45 giving 15 minutes to set up the bike, warm up, chat or whatever else you need to do. Remember to bring a drink and a towel, you’ll get warm!
There is free parking at St Christopher Place for both spinning and circuits.
Swimming: Don’t forget we have our usual swim sessions at St Albans Boys school on Mondays from 19:45 to 21:15. Please only use the top car park!
We also have the session on Thursdays at HSV starting at 20:15 for an hour.
You should all have received the separate mail regarding our club kit order. The club shop is now open and can be found here.
The shop will be accepting orders until Friday 9th February at 16:00, at which point it will close and the ordered items will be put in to production with anticipated delivery for mid – late March. The ordering process is straight forward, however a guide is here to support this.
We anticipate the next opportunity after this ordering window will be much later in 2020. If you plan on ordering club kit to race in this summer, you will need to order now. We have received samples covering a range of garments which will be at Monday night swimming, whilst the store is open, for people to try on and understand the sizing and differences between the collections.
The events that will count towards the 2020 race series are below.
You are awarded points based on participation in one of these events or marshalling at club events, plus then writing a race report either on Facebook or the Forum. The full rules can be found here.
