November and December 2016 Newsletter

From the Committee

This is the Tri-Force newsletter for november and December.

It was a pleasure to see so many old and new faces at the year-end celebration drinks last month at the White Hart. During the evening the results of the 2016 race series’ were announced: Laura Addie and Sean Jennings won the female & male new triathlete of the year awards.

The 2016 Tri-Force race series winners were:

  • Women; 1st Dani Pruett, 2nd Tamsyn Clarke, 3rd Naomi Holt
  • Men; 1st Paul Hewitt, 2nd Chris Brown, 3rd Matt Lambden
  • Female Veterans; 1st Pam Duncan, 2nd Heather Hobbs, 3rd Helen McFarlane
  • Male Veterans; 1st Graeme McTait, 2nd Gary Kellett, 3rd Mick Trottman
  • Male Super Veteran; Mick Wise

The winners of the 2016 Duathlon series were Sean Jennings and Pam Duncan. As has been previously announced, the format of the race series changes for 2017 with all multisport events counting to the final result when you submit a race report on the forum.

Enjoy your long steady training at this time of year and don’t forget, you know you’re a triathlete when you use the words “easy” and “long run” in the same sentence.

Podcasts of the Month

Two podcasts that I have started listening to recently: the Legends of Triathlon podcast is exactly what it says! Interviews with historic legends of the sport by the same guys that produce the IM Talk podcast referred to in a previous newsletter.

The second podcast could be considered a tad controversial – The Forward podcast is a series of conversations between Lance Armstrong and various people from many different walks of life with whom he has come into contact. It’s very American and Lance’s intro chat can come across as a bit “cheesy”, but there are some interesting discussions; the one with boxing promoter Bob Arum and his thoughts on USADA was particularly thought provoking.
